Not only renowned for extraordinary portraits of some of the greatest musicians of the era, Jim Marshall also documented the times, environments and some of the most fascinating periods of our history.  "Jazz has been blessed with a small army of great photographers who captured the music being made visually.  Jim Marshall a wonderful madman, was a great jazz photographer, as the publication of a book of his photos entitled Jazz Festival illustrates.  It was Jim who, walking through San Francisco, found himself at the corner of Grant and Green Streets, shot the street signs and sent them to Blue Note, where that image graced the cover of Grant Green’s Street Of Dreams album. -Michael Cuscuna
